24-Hours After IAS Was Filmed Bashing Scribe, UP Govt Still To Act Against Errant Officer

Lucknow, July 11 (TNA) A day after horrifying pictures of an IAS officer thrashing a television journalist went viral on the internet and the social media, neither the district administration of Unnao, where the incident happened nor the state government has acted against the errant officer.

The scribe was covering alleged bungling in the Unnao district where, like elsewhere in the state, balloting for the Block Pramukh's was taking place.

Divyanshu Patel, the Chief Development Officer or CDO of Unnao, remained unavailable for comments, after a feeble "sorry" on Saturday after journalists stage a sit-in in Unnao against the incident.

The JNU alumni, IAS was however trending on the social media with thousands of tweets on Twitter, where people from across the country were demanding his sacking and arrest. One of the trending hashtags is: #Arrest_CDO_दिव्यांशु_पटेल.

An audio, purportedly that of a conversation between a journalist and the Unnao DM has been tweeted by the Samajwadi Party (SP) where the scribe is demanding lodging of an FIR against Patel but the DM is avoiding the issue.

The CDO is accused of attacking the television reporter in Miyanganj block of Unnao because he was filmed by the latter allegedly helping kidnap local council members to stop them from voting.
