French President Macron Urges Social Media Ban for Children Under 15, Asks Modi To Join In

New Delhi, February 20 (TNA) French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking at the India AI Impact Summit, announced that France plans to impose a ban on social media use for children under 15. He emphasised that protecting children from AI risks will be France’s top priority at the G7, noting that Spain is also preparing similar measures.

He called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to join this initiative for the sake of "safety of children and adolescents. He added that France is ready to take all necessary steps to ensure the real safety of young citizens and collaborate with all willing partners.

Macron further stressed that platforms, governments, and regulatory bodies must work together to make the internet and social media safer spaces. France has already begun the process of restricting social networks for those under 15, citing the negative impact of unregulated early digital exposure on children’s mental health, social behaviour, and comprehension. He urged democratic nations to establish shared standards on this issue.
