Former Pak PM Imran Khan, Wife Bushra Bibi Sentenced In Al-Qadir Trust Corruption Case
Islamabad, January 17 (TNA) Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have been found guilty in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust corruption case. An anti-corruption court handed down a 14-year prison sentence to Khan and a 7-year sentence to Bushra Bibi. The verdict was delivered by Judge Nasir Javed Rana after multiple delays, the latest being on January 13. The case revolves around allegations of misappropriation of funds meant for the trust, established under the couple’s leadership.
The judgment marks a significant setback for Khan, who has been a prominent figure in Pakistan’s political landscape. Critics have called the case a politically motivated attempt to undermine Khan and his party. The Al-Qadir Trust case has been a point of contention, with supporters of the former prime minister dismissing the charges as baseless. However, the court’s decision has intensified the political turmoil in Pakistan, raising questions about accountability and the rule of law.
Both Khan and Bushra Bibi are expected to appeal the sentences.
