America Can Decouple Its Economy From China, Stop Business If Not Treated Fairly: Donald Trump

The US president has since shut the door on the phase II negotiations, saying he is unhappy with Beijing's handling of the pandemic.

WASHINGTON || American president Donald Trump has said that his country can decouple its economy from China.

Amid growing tension between the two countries, after US charged China for the dreaded Coronavirus pandemic that has since claimed millions across the world, Trump in a television interview said that US can also "stop business with China".

In reply to a question on decoupling the US economy from China, Trump said if China does not treat the US fairly, he will certainly do that.

In June, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin had said a decoupling of the US and Chinese economies will happen if US companies are not allowed to compete on a fair and level basis in China's economy. The USA had struck a partial Phase I trade deal in January.

The US president has since shut the door on the phase II negotiations, saying he is unhappy with Beijing's handling of the pandemic.
