22 Percent Candidates In UP’s Second Phase Tainted, Samajwadi Party Tops List

Lucknow, February 16 (TNA) According to a report released by the Uttar Pradesh Election Watch Association for Democratic Reform (ADR), 22 per cent candidates in the third phase of elections in politically crucial Uttar Pradesh have criminal cases agains them. The Samajwadi Party (SP) has fielded 21 such candidates, BJP 20, BSP 18, Congress ten, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) 11.

Maximum criminal cases are registered against Congress's Farrukhabad seat candidate Louis Khurshid. 627 candidates are in fray in this phase for 59 seats. Two candidates have been booked for rape and two for murder and 11 candidates have cases of atrocities registered against them.
