UP’s Urban Spaces Shine: Agra, Jhansi, Moradabad, Lucknow Lead Swachh Vayu Survekshan 2025 Clean Air Revolution
Lucknow, September 10 (TNA) Uttar Pradesh’s cities have once again set new standards for environmental excellence, clinching multiple honours in the Swachh Vayu Survekshan 2025, a national clean air assessment conducted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC). Building on their earlier success in the Swacchta Awards, iconic cities like Agra, Jhansi, Moradabad, Varanasi and Lucknow—along with several others—have been recognised for effective pollution control and innovative green initiatives.
The survey, which evaluates cities based on their execution of the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) and air quality improvements, saw Agra clinch the third spot among cities with a population above 10 lakh, followed by Kanpur at fifth, Prayagraj at seventh, Varanasi at eleventh, Ghaziabad at twelfth, and Lucknow at fifteenth. These ranks underline the effectiveness of large-scale government and community efforts in Uttar Pradesh’s major urban centres.
In the mid-sized city category (3–10 lakh population), Jhansi and Moradabad tied for second place, Gorakhpur and Firozabad took fifth, while Bareilly earned seventh. Smaller cities weren’t left behind: Anpara was ranked fifth, Raebareli seventh, Gajrula twenty-third, and Khurja twenty-sixth—reflecting statewide commitment across all tiers of urban governance.
