Chandigarh, June 7 (TNA) Energy Minister of Uttar Pradesh, A. K. Sharma attended the Regional Power Ministers’ Conference of Northern Region on Friday at Chandigarh. The conference was chaired by Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and was attended to among others by the power secretary of the Government of India and the power ministers of Punjab, Haryana, Jammu-Kashmir, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh and central and state level officers

In this important conference, various issues about the power sector were discussed. Sharma highlighted the achievements of the state in the power sector in recent years during the regime of the BJP government.

Among other things, he said that Uttar Pradesh has made a record in supplying electricity to consumers in recent years by supplying peak power of 30,000 MW and above. He added that this peak demand being met by the Uttar Pradesh power system for the last four years is the highest ever in the state.

Also, he underlined, that this peak demand being met by UP is also the highest in the country and has remained so for the last four years. UP has left behind all other states in terms of maximum power supply to its customers. Sharma also added that to meet this growing demand, the state has also prepared a resource adequacy plan and has added various types of electricity generation capacity.

UP has also performed as the top-ranking state in the Green Energy Corridor project-2.

Citing an example he said that recently Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation, a new thermal capacity of UP to the tune of 3960 MW constructed in the last few years. With this new capacity, the generation capacity of UP state has gone up to 8500 MW, which used to be around 5100 MW in 2017 and 5800 MW in 2022. Thus, UP has almost doubled its generation capacity since 2017 and increased its capacity by more than 1.5 times since 2022.

Similarly, the minister pointed out, that in the transmission sector, also, UP has broken all records. The capacity of power stations has been increased five times since 2717 and 1.5 times since 2022 taking it to 2,00,000 MVA. In terms of the transmission lines, UP has made records by constructing 62483 circuit kilometres which is 9 times more than the length in 2017 and 2.5 times the length in 2022.

Sharma also added that UP has become the top-performing state in many flagship projects and schemes launched by the Government of India. UP is the number one state in the implementation of the RDSS scheme, which is for improving the electricity infrastructure including old wires, poles and other distribution system networks which was causing financial loss to the system and leading to inconvenience to the consumers.

Similarly, UP has also performed as the top-ranking state in the Green Energy Corridor project-2. It has been implementing the project for establishing 4 GB of green transmission capacity spread into more than 2500 km of transmission lines. As a leading state, it has also prepared and submitted the Green Energy Corridor Project-3 to the government of India for 17 GW capacity covering more than 2200 km of green electricity transmission lines.
