Lucknow, September 5 (TNA) Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (UPPTCL) has set a new benchmark in India’s power sector by receiving the prestigious Best State Transmission Utility award at the Bharat Electricity Awards 2025, presented at POWERGEN India & Indian Utility Week.

The ceremony, held from September 2–4 at Yashobhoomi, IICC, New Delhi, was themed “Viksit Bharat: Transforming Energy, Transforming Lives.” The Bharat Electricity Award is regarded as India’s premier recognition platform for outstanding achievements in the power sector and is supported by the Union Ministries of Power, Renewable Energy, Heavy Industries, External Affairs, and Jal Shakti.

The award, organised by the Energy & Climate Initiative Society (ENCIS) in collaboration with iTEN Media, was adjudicated by a jury led by P. K. Pujari, IAS (Retd.), featuring experts from Grid India, NSGM, NPTI, CEA, Tata Power, SECI, and other leading utilities.

This recognition cements UPPTCL’s status as the nation’s largest transmission utility, operating an impressive network of 681 substations with a transform capacity of 169,074 MVA and 55,051 circuit kilometres—setting a national benchmark for capacity addition, reliability, and digital transformation.

In 2024–25, UPPTCL recorded operational excellence by meeting a peak demand of 31,800 MW with 98.38% system availability, while reducing transmission losses to just 3.22%. Significant infrastructure growth was achieved with the commissioning of 13 new substations, extension of 1,263 circuit kilometres of transmission lines, and upgrades at 91 substations.

Reliability efforts included double-source supply at 680 substations, and modernisation initiatives such as drone and thermo-vision technologies, which succeeded in cutting trippings to 1.37 per line per year.
