Outrage Over Ind-Pak Asia Cup Match Sparks Massive Boycott Campaign Online

1 min read

The hashtags #IndVsPak and #BoycottAsiaCup are trending on X as calls grow for fans to boycott the highly anticipated India-Pakistan Asia Cup match, scheduled for September 14 in Dubai.

The outcry has intensified following recent terror attacks and Operation Sindoor, with users urging the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to cancel the fixture and criticising any sporting engagement with Pakistan in the current climate.

Public figures, veterans, and former cricketers have joined social media users in protesting the match, arguing that cricket cannot be separated from ongoing conflicts and sacrifices made by the armed forces. The Supreme Court refused to hear a PIL seeking cancellation of the match, stressing that “it’s just a match”, but unsold tickets and sponsor withdrawals reflect the rising discontent.

The hashtags and boycott calls highlight deep divisions and the politicisation of cricket, with several prominent personalities asserting that some moments are “bigger than sport” and demanding solidarity in not watching or supporting the controversial game.
