Eight-Month Pregnant Indian-Origin Woman Killed In Sydney After Teen Driver’s BMW Triggers Fatal Crash
Sydney, November 19 (TNA) In a heartbreaking incident in Sydney’s Hornsby suburb, 33-year-old Samanvitha Dhareshwar, an Indian-origin woman who was eight months pregnant, lost her life after being struck during a car collision on Friday night, November 14. The tragedy unfolded outside a carpark on George Street, where Dhareshwar and her family were crossing the footpath.
A Kia Carnival had slowed down to let them pass when a speeding BMW sedan, driven by 19-year-old Aaron Papazoglu, rammed into the Kia from behind. The impact pushed the Kia forward, fatally hitting Dhareshwar.
Emergency responders treated her on-site before rushing her to Westmead Hospital, where doctors could not save her or her unborn child. The devastating crash has sent shockwaves through both the local community and the Indian diaspora in Australia.
Papazoglu, a provisional licence holder from Wahroonga, was arrested early Saturday morning. He now faces multiple serious charges, including dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, and causing the loss of a foetus an offence applied when a pregnant woman dies due to criminal negligence.
Local media reports say that the teenager is expected to apply for bail, even as the victim’s family grapples with an unimaginable loss. The case has reignited concerns around reckless driving and road safety in busy suburban zones.
