Vijay Kumar Named The New DGP of UP, Third To Hold The Baton Of Acting State Police Chief

Lucknow, May 31 (TNA) Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Vijay Kumar has been named as the acting Director General of Police (DGP) by the Yogi Adityanath government. He will succeed incumbent acting DGP RK Vishwakarma, who has since retired. Kumar is a 1988-batch IPS officer and will also hold additional charge of DG CB-CID, a post being currently held by him.

Kumar is the third acting DGP of UP. The earlier ones being DS Chauhan and Vishwakarma. Another senior police officer Anand Kumar, DG (Cooperative Cell) was also in the running but he lost to Vijay Kumar.

UP last had a full-time state police chief in 2022 when Mukul Goel was at the helm. He was however removed all of a sudden on May 11, 2022 and thereafter the world’s biggest police force is being run by acting chiefs.
