Uttar Pradesh Shivers Under Dense Fog and Cold Wave Grip

1 min read

Lucknow, January 8 (TNA) Uttar Pradesh continued to reel under severe cold wave conditions and very dense fog on Thursday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing warnings for low visibility and disruptions across the state, including Lucknow, Noida, and eastern districts.

Early morning temperatures plummeted to 7.4°C in Bareilly, 8.2°C in Prayagraj, 9.8°C in Bahraich, and around 9°C in Lucknow and Noida, with forecasts predicting daytime highs of 16-19°C but persistent chill due to overcast skies and icy winds.

Dense to very dense fog has reduced visibility to 300-600 meters or near zero in many areas, delaying flights, trains, and road traffic while prompting yellow alerts for over 50 districts, including Ghaziabad, Meerut, Agra, and Varanasi.

IMD anticipates cold day conditions in east UP and Bihar borders, with potential frost risks and light rain in isolated spots, advising limited outdoor activity and caution for commuters . Relief may come with slight temperature rises of 2-4°C over the next two days in Lucknow, though fog lingers into Friday
