UP’s ‘Man Of All Seasons’ Navneet Sehgal To Retire Today After Long, Successful Innings In The Bureaucracy

Lucknow, July 31 (TNA) 1988-bath Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Navneet Sehgal, who played a key role in three successive governments, will retire today. A man of all seasons, he held plum postings in the dispensations of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Samajwadi Party (SP) and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

At present he is holding the charge of Additional Chief Secretary Sports and Youth Welfare in the Uttar Pradesh government and is credited with bringing sweeping changes in the department like never before.

Sehgal, who hails from Punjab was Chief Minister Mayawati's secretary in the BSP government. He was then considered one of the most influential officers on the fifth floor.

However, after the formation of SP government in the year 2012, he was sidelines and put in waiting. But, after two years he was back in prominence and in the mainstream bureaucracy in 2014 and was made Principal Secretary Information. He was one of the most trusted officers of the then CM Akhilesh Yadav.

Apart from the DIPR, he also had the responsibility of UPEDA. As the CEO of UPEDA, he was the man behind the quick and quality construction of the the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, which was touted by the SP as its major development showcase.

Even in the Yogi-1 government, he got the responsibility of an important department like information, but shortly after the formation of the Yogi government-2, he was eased out and sent to the Sports Department in August 2022. However, he is known to have a cordial relationship with Yogi Adityanath, the central leadership of the BJP and has immense goodwill in the media world and the political fraternity.
