Lucknow, May 24 (TNA) With the mercury soaring across Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has put the state administration on high alert and issued strict instructions to ensure uninterrupted drinking‑water supply, power availability, and medical preparedness amid an ongoing heatwave.

The CM has directed District Magistrates, the Health Department, the Power Department and relief agencies to remain fully vigilant following the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) orange heatwave alert. He has asked officials to maintain special surveillance in heat‑vulnerable districts and to ensure that government hospitals are fully equipped to treat heatstroke and heat‑related cases, including dedicated wards and adequate stocks of medicines.

Adityanath has reiterated that “no negligence will be accepted” in drinking‑water supply, irrigation and relief management, instructing departments to track water levels in tanks, ponds and canals and to keep alternate arrangements, such as water tankers, ready in advance. He has also directed the forest department to provide drinking water for animals in wildlife sanctuaries and shelters, and the electricity department to minimise power cuts during peak‑heat hours.

The chief minister has appealed to residents to avoid unnecessary travel during the hottest part of the day, especially between noon and early afternoon, and to remain in shaded or air‑conditioned environments wherever possible. He has urged people to drink sufficient water, wear light‑coloured, loose cotton or khadi clothing, cover their heads when outdoors, and pay special attention to children, the elderly and those with chronic illnesses.

Officials have also been asked to run public‑awareness campaigns on heatstroke symptoms and to set up drinking‑water points and shaded spots in markets, bus stands and other crowded public places to help labourers, auto‑drivers, and pedestrians cope with extreme heat.
