UP Cabinet Approves Key Proposals: Road Expansions, Sugarcane Prices, And Compassionate Appointments
Lucknow, February 18 (TNA) The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, through circulation on Monday, approved several significant proposals ahead of the state legislature’s budget session. The session will commence on Tuesday with Governor Anandiben Patel’s address to the joint assembly. Among the approved proposals were the Governor’s speech draft, road expansion projects, and amendments to the rules for compassionate appointments.
Major Road Expansion Projects Approved
The cabinet has given the green light to the widening and expansion of multiple key roads in the state. In Ayodhya, the 14 Kosi Parikrama Marg will be expanded into a four-lane road, integrating Lakshman Path within a 30.643 km stretch. Additionally, in Azamgarh, the Mahula-Garhwal Bandha to Hajiapur Khadelia-Gola Bazaar road will be extended, including the construction of a bridge over the Ghaghra River.
In Varanasi, the Lahartara to BHU road via Ravindrapuri Colony and Vijaya Cinema will be widened to four lanes up to 7.212 km and six lanes up to 9.512 km. Furthermore, the Tanda Road (State Highway 30-A) in Ayodhya will be upgraded to a four-lane road for 14 km. Approval was also granted for the Muzaffarnagar-Baghpat road under the Uttar Pradesh Major Inland Waterways Development Program, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
No Change in Sugarcane Prices for This Year
The state government has decided to keep the sugarcane procurement price unchanged at ₹370 per quintal for the 2024-25 financial year. This decision was approved via cabinet circulation on Monday. In the previous fiscal year, the price was increased by ₹20 per quintal.
Compassionate Appointments for Martyrs’ Siblings
In a significant move, the UP government has amended the rules for compassionate job appointments to include the dependent siblings of unmarried martyred soldiers. This decision addresses numerous cases where the martyr’s parents or younger brothers were financially dependent on them. Additionally, in cases where a martyr’s widow remarries their younger brother, the sibling will now be eligible for a government job under compassionate grounds.
Shahjahanpur District Court Expansion Approved
The cabinet has also approved a proposal for the expansion of the Shahjahanpur District Court. A 5,430 sq. meter piece of land from the PWD’s inspection building near the court premises will be transferred free of cost to accommodate the expansion. These approvals mark a significant step in the state’s infrastructure development, administrative reforms, and social welfare policies ahead of the crucial budget session.
