Three Lakh Cases Under The Disaster Management And Epidemic Act Stand Withdrawn In UP

Lucknow, October 27 (TNA) The Uttar Pradesh government has withdrawn cases against more than three lakh cases slapped on people for violation of the Epidemic Act during the Covid lockdown, an official said on Wednesday. Orders for the same have also been issued by the law department, he further said.

However, former MP’s, legislators of both the Houses have been kept out of this order and their fate has been left to the High Court, for which the state government will knock its doors soon. Law Minister Brajesh Pathak said that all district magistrates have been asked in writing to withdraw all such cases.

Principal Secretary of the Law department, Pramod Kumar Srivastava, in an order has categorically said that all cases slapped on people of the state under the Disaster Management Act 2005, Epidemic Act 1897 and Section 188 of IPC, in which chargesheets have been filed should be immediatekly withdrawn. Number of such cases is around three lakh.
