LUCKNOW || BJP candidate Syed Zafar Islam was on Friday elected unopposed for the lone Rajya Sabha seat for which bye elections were held. The seat fell vacant after the demise of Amar Singh last month. While BJP had fielded another candidate Govind Narayan Shukla but he withdrew his candidature, paving way for an unopposed victory for Islam.
He would be now a member of the Upper House of the Parliament till November 2022. Since he was infested by the Coronavirus, he was neither present for his candidature nor on Friday to collect his victory certificate.
His certificate was received by his official representative JPS Rathore. With his victory, Islam has become the seventh Muslim lawmaker of the BJP in the parliament.
