SP-Congress Spreading Canards About My Proximity To BJP To Confuse Muslims: Mayawati

LUCKNOW || Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Monday lashed out at the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress for "spreading canards about her proximity to the Bharatiya Janata Party".

These rumours, she said in a press statement, were being spread by these parties to alienate the Muslim vote bank from her party. She also underlined that she still had enough political fire power in her and that she was not going to retire from politics.

She said Congress was four steps ahead of the BJP in victimising its political opponents and misusing the CBI and ED against adversaries. "I was harassed big time by these agencies" she went on to say.

Reiterating her earlier statement that she would go any length to defeat the SP in the forthcoming Legislative Council polls in Uttar Pradesh, the four-time UP chief minister however clarified that the ideology of her party was completely different and separate from that of the saffron party.

The Dalit leader further said that all this was being done deliberately with an eye on the seven state assembly seats in UP where bye-polls are being held.

She also allayed fears of the Muslims of inching close to the BJP and said that in her tenures, there was communal harmony and no riots had taken place. "My government has always taken care of all the sections of the society" she further said.
