SIT Probing The Hathras Incident Given Ten Days Extension To Submit Its Report

LUCKNOW || Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday extended the timeline given to the Special Investigation team (SIT) constituted to probe the Hathras incident. The SIT initially had been mandated to submit its report to the state government within a week.

This deadline was coming to an end on Wednesday and now the extension gives it ten-more days to probe the whole thing threadbare and give its final report.

Meanwhile, the SIT has met the family members of the Hathras gang-rape victim and recorded their statements and tried to know the reality by questioning the villagers.

Dalit and women officers are also included in the team. Apart from Home Secretary Bhagwan Swaroop, the other two members are DIG Chandra Prakash and Commandant PAC Agra Poonam. Sources say that during the course of its investigation, the SIT has closed the statements of more than 100 people.

It includes statements of the accused, police and administration officials besides the victim's family. Action can also be recommended against some more officers in this case. At the same time, five police personnel including SP, CO of Hathras were suspended by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath after the SIT submitted the initial report.
