Senior BJP leader And Rajya Sabha MP Hardwar Dubey Dead

New Delhi/Agra, June 26 (TNA) Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Rajya Sabha member Hardwar Dubey passed away in the wee hours of Monday at the AIIMS in the union capital. He was 74. He developed unease and some health distress last night and was rushed to the AIIMS where he breath his last at 5:30 am on Monday.

With his demise, a pall of gloom has decended amongst his supporters, party leaders and the BJP. Dubey was credited with establishing the roots of the Jansangh and the BJP in Agra and the Brij region in neighbouring districts. His body is being taken to Agra, from where he won many legislative elections. The cremation will take place here only.

Hardwar Dubey was born on July 1, 1949 in Hussainabad, Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. He worked as organization minister in Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in Agra. He was married to Professor Kamla Pandey, a prominent educationist of Agra, who worked at St Johns College. She too has been keeping unwell for many years.

Hardwar Dubey contested on a BJP ticket in 1989 from Agra Cantonment and was victorious. He had defeated Dr. Krishnaveer Singh Kaushal, a veteran Congress leader. He became MLA again in 1991 and was made Minister of State for Finance in Kalyan Singh's government. He later contested elections from Kheragarh assembly constituency in the year 2005 but did not get success.

In 2011, he lost the election from the Agra-Firozabad Legislative Council seat. In 2013, he was made the Vice President and Spokesperson of BJP Uttar Pradesh. He was sworn in as a Rajya Sabha member on 26 November 2020. He however he could not remain an MP even for three years and passed away on Monday. Many leaders including the UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath have mourned the untimely demise of Dubey.
