PM Modi Releases Special Postal Stamp On Chauri Chaura Centenary Celebration

Lucknow, February 4 (TNA) Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a special postal stamp on Thursday to commemorate the centenary of the Chauri Chaura incident.

The release was done virtually. In his address, which started in Bhojpuri, the prime minister said that the incident which took place 100 years back when a British police station was set ablaze was not just an incident but one which lit the fire of freedom in the hearts of millions of Indians.

Chauri Chaura gave a big message to Indians, the prime minister said while regretting that the incident however was not discussed in a big way that it should have been done.

"While the incident was one that triggered a spate of movements in favour of the freedom struggle but it was highlighted only as an incident of fire and arson" the PM said while also underlining on how the people behind the incident were not given their due recognition.

Before this, 50,000 people led by UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath made a world record by singing the Vande Mataram together. The saffron-robed chief minister as physically present at the event while UP governor Anandiben Patel joined the event virtually from Raj Bhawan in Lucknow.
