Lucknow, August 4 (TNA) The city of Lucknow is witnessing massive protests following the suspicious death of 18-year-old BCA student Vasavi Singh from Nainital’s Graphic Era Hill University. On Sunday evening, hundreds — including students, activists, family members, and residents — joined a Justice March from IT Chauraha to Parivartan Chowk, voicing anger against university authorities and the administration’s silence.

Protesters raised sharp questions: “Where is the university’s CCTV footage?”, “Why is the administration silent?”, and “Why is this the 8th such incident at the university?”. Crowd members, including Vasavi’s parents, alleged severe negligence by the university in student safety, stating that those raising their voice on social media for Vasavi are being threatened.

Vasavi’s father, Ramkrishna Singh, accused the administration of covering up the incident, asserting that his daughter’s death was not suicide but murder — a result of ragging and mental harassment. The family claims they were not allowed to meet her roommate, nor shown CCTV footage, and allege that Vasavi was killed after she intervened to stop ragging and reported it to the hostel warden.

Reports indicate that marks on Vasavi’s neck did not match those typically left by a scarf, suggesting possible strangulation with a rope. Her brother, Ayush Singh, echoed these suspicions, and the family pointed out delays and irregularities in university communication and post-mortem proceedings. Protesters also highlighted that this was the eighth student death in the university under questionable circumstances, deepening public concern over campus safety.

Senior officials have yet to issue a detailed response, and Vasavi’s family has demanded an impartial investigation, appealing to Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami for intervention. The incident has sparked a movement, with #JusticeForVasavi trending across platforms, and protesters declaring they will continue their campaign until those responsible are held to account.
