Man Who Sent Threat Letter To Blow Up Prominent Temples Of Lucknow Arrested

Lucknow, August 6 (TNA) The man who sent a letter few days back threatening to blow up prominent religious spots - Mankameshwar temple, Aliganj Bada Hanuman temple, Hanuman Setu temples in the state capital, has been arrested, a police official informed.

The 32-year-old, identified as Mohd Shafeeq, had sent a registered letter of threat, leaving the police and intelligence agencies in a tizzy. ADCP Prachi Singh informed that the accused has admitted of the act which he claimed was to spread terror in the minds of people in the state capital.

He is a resident of Akhada Seelampur K-block in New Delhi but had been living in the state capital for the past few months on a rented accommodation in Bheekhapurwa, Bakshi Ka Talaab.

Many documents have also been seized from his house, which suggest that he was part of a religious conversion group and was also associated with the Deobandh in western UP. He has separated from his wife and a Talaq case against him is also underway.

His arrest was made after close scrutiny of CCTV footage of a post office where the accused can be seen walking on July 27. He was tracked and finally arrested from below the Purania Flyover.
