Heavy Rain Alert Issued For 24 UP Districts As Monsoon Intensifies In Terai And Purvanchal
Lucknow, August 2 (TNA) The monsoon has revived strongly across parts of Uttar Pradesh, with light to moderate rainfall recorded in various districts, while many regions in the Terai and Purvanchal belts are bracing for heavy downpours over the weekend.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon’s core activity is now shifting towards the eastern Terai regions — including Shrawasti, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, and Maharajganj — with promising signs of widespread rainfall over Purvanchal in the coming days.
The regional weather office in Lucknow has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in 24 districts on Saturday. Additionally, lightning and thunderstorms have been forecast for 51 other districts, making it a weather-sensitive weekend across most of the state.
On Friday, Hathras recorded 112 mm of rainfall, the highest in the state, followed by Etawah (90 mm), Baghpat (71 mm), and Bijnor (65 mm).

Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Basti, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Balrampur, Shrawasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Barabanki, Ayodhya, Ambedkar Nagar, and Pilibhit.

Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Varanasi, Bhadohi, Jaunpur, Lucknow, Hardoi, Rae Bareli, Amethi, Sultanpur, Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Bijnor, Amroha, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Sambhal, Budaun, and nearby regions.
Lucknow to Receive Intermittent Showers for Next 3 Days
In the state capital, the next three days are expected to be marked by light to moderate rainfall, beginning late Saturday evening. The rains may lower daytime temperatures by 2–3°C, offering residents relief from the recent humid spell. August is expected to start on a positive note in terms of monsoon activity after below-normal rainfall in June and July, the department noted.
On Friday, Lucknow recorded a maximum temperature of 32.3°C, slightly below normal, while the night temperature dipped to 26.4°C, offering a cooler start to August. Residents are advised to stay alert, especially in districts marked for heavy rainfall or lightning. Farmers, commuters, and residents in low-lying areas have been advised to take necessary precautions.
