Gulabi Gang Commander Sampat Pal Quits Congress, Joins BJP

Chitrakoot, February 25 (TNA) Gulabi Gang Commander Sampat Pal on Friday left Congress and joined the BJP. Pal is recognized for championing women's rights in the country and has won accolades around the world. She joined the saffron camp in presence of chief minister Yogi Adityanath who was visiting Chitrakoot.

Pal said she joined BJP to safeguard her self-respect. “I haven't come for any tickets. I will work like a worker” she added. Sampat Pal had sought Congress ticket from Manikpur seat but the party had fielded Ranjana Baratilal Pandey from there, after which she was angry.

A resident of Badosa in Banda district, she had contested on a Congress ticket from Manikpur assembly seat in the year 2012. She got about 23 thousand votes and was in fourth place. In 2017, the Congress-SP alliance again contested Sampat Pal from the same seat she got 4,0524 votes. She was at number two.
