Forty Arrested In Baghpat For Illegal Cock Fight And Betting

Lucknow, March 15 (TNA) The Baghpat police has arrested 40 people for better over cocks and making them fight. They were involved in a rooster fight and the police has recovered Rs 1.33 lakh in cash, four countrywide pistols, four cartridges, illegal knives, one unnumbered Scorpio car, 35 mobile phones and nine alive roosters, an official said.

All the accused have been booked under relevant laws, the officer further added. Cockfighting has been illegal in India since the enactment of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act in 1960. Subsequent judgements by the Supreme Court of India in 2015, and the Andhra Pradesh High Court in 2016, upheld the ban.
