Former UP DGP Sulkhan Singh Takes Entry Into Politics, Floats Bundelkhand Loktantrik Party

Lucknow, November 22 (TNA) Bureaucrats and police officials joining politics after retirement is not a new phenomenon. On Wednesday, another ex-police official of the Uttar Pradesh cadre-Sulkhan Singh took a leap into the political arena. The former top cop of Uttar Pradesh formed his own political party, making demand of a separate Bundelkhand state its core ideology. The party has been named Bundelkhand Loktantrik Party (BLP).

The Former DGP of UP has raised the demand to make Bundelkhand a separate state by combining total 15 districts of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. The demand to create Bundelkhand state by merging 7 districts of UP (Jhansi, Banda, Hamirpur, Chitrakoot, Lalitpur, Jalaun, Mahoba) and 8 districts of Madhya Pradesh (Damoh, Panna, Sagar, Chhatarpur, Datia, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Ashoknagar) has been raised as soon as the political outfit came into being.

The 66-year-old Singh has served in various key positions for Uttar Pradesh Government (Police), including as the Director General (DG) of Uttar Pradesh Police, Director General of Training Directorate, Additional Director General (ADG) (Police Headquarters) in Allahabad, Additional Director General/Inspector General/Secretary (ADG/IG) in Department of Prison administration and reform of Uttar Pradesh Government, Inspector General (IG) of Lucknow Zone, Deputy Inspector General of Lucknow, Allahabad and Mirzapur ranges, and as District Senior Senior Superintendent of Police/Superintendent of Police (SSP/SP) of Agra, Allahabad, Saharanpur, and Rampur districts.

Singh was given extension of three months in September 2017 to serve as Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police till December. Singh retired on 31 December 2017.
