Cops Burn Abandoned Bodies In Ballia By Putting Tyres And Petrol On Pyre, Five Suspended After Outrage
Lucknow, May 18 (TNA) Amid an unparalleled COVID pandemic in Uttar Pradesh as bodies are being dumped in the rivers and water bodies a harrowing incident has come to light, exposing police insensitivity and systemic decay of sorts.
In Ballia, policemen have been caught on camera fishing out bodies from the river and then getting them on logs of wood.
When the wood is not enough, tyres are seen being put on the funeral pyre to ensure "speedy disposal". Not to stop at this, the cops are also seen sprinkling petrol on the dead.
As the video grab of the incident found its way to the social media, the Ballia SP has suspended five policemen involved in the inhuman treatment to the dead.
Bodies have been floating all across the state, mostly in the holy Ganga river. Corpses have been discovered rotting and floating in Varanasi, Ghazipur and Ballia.
Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader in the UP State Assembly Aradhana Misra 'Mona' has condemned the incident and has accused the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government of robbing the dead of dignity they deserved.
"The government has not helped them when they were alive and now doing this to the dead...very sad and shameful" she said.
