Case Filed Against Eminent Poet Munawwar Rana Under Serious Sections of IPC

LUCKNOW || Eminent poet Munawwar Rana landed in trouble on Monday after an FIR was registered against him at the Hazratganj police station in Lucknow. The case has been filed for the statement of the poet justifying the violent protests against France after French president Macron said Islamist terrorism was threat to the world and would not be tolerated.

Rana justified the violence and had in fact said that had a cartoon been made of his father or mother as was done in the case of Prophet Mohhamad, he would have beheaded the person doing so.

The case was filed by Sub Inspector Deepak Pandey Rana at Hazratganj Kotwali in Lucknow under serious sections.

According to the sub-inspector, during routine social media scrutiny, he came across news that poet Munawwar Rana had given a disputed statement during an interview to a private channel. This statement, he added, could lead to communal disharmony.

Police have said that the statement will spread disharmony among communities, adversely affect social harmony and is expected to disturb public peace. Police have registered a case against the poet under sections 153a 295a 298 505 of IPC and other sections.

According to DCP Central Somen Verma, Munawwar Rana had made a statement on a private channel which had justified the murder in France after the cartoon controversy.
