BJP Scores Another Big Victory In UP, Wins 33 Of The 36 Legislative Council Seats

Lucknow, April 12 (TNA) The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has scored yet another massive victory by winning 33 of the 36 legislative council seats, biennial polls for which were held recently. After the results are formally declared, the party will secure majority for the first time in decades in both the Houses of Uttar Pradesh.

While BJP has won 33 seats, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has not won a single seat. Three seats have gone to independents. did not get a single seat, the other 3 seats went into the kitty of the independents.

It however has a sore point as the BJP lost in Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of prime minister Narendra Modi. In Varanasi, Annapurna Singh, wife of local strongman Brijesh Singh, has won the seat with a huge margin, with the BJP candidate coming second.

BJP had already won nine seats unopposed. Among the prominent SP candidates who lost include Dr Kafeel Khan, who had earlier been jailed for his alleged role in the Gorakhpur oxygen deaths in 2017.
