AMU Old Boys Association Seeks Withdrawal of 'Controversial' Moharram Circular By UP DGP

Lucknow, August 5 (TNA) In view of the recent guidelines issued by DGP Uttar Pradesh in relation to Moharram mournings, AMU Old Boys Association Lucknow has adopted a resolution to impress upon UP government to take necessary steps to withdraw this circular as it has hurt religious sentiments of Muslims in particular and all believers of Imam Husain in general.

The said circular is somewhere indicative of division between Shia and Sunni Muslims which is absolutely wrong. For last several years Shia and Sunni of Lucknow perform NAMAZ-E-EID together that was initiated by an organization "Shoulder to Shoulder" and patronized by late Dr Kalbe Sadiq which still continues.

All Muslims are equally believers of Imam Husain, the grand son of prophet Mohammad(PBUH). AMOUBA Lucknow, therefore demands immediate withdrawal of the said circular and issue a fresh one which should promote communal harmony, Shakeel A Qidwai, President, AMU Old Boys Association, Lucknow said in a statement.

The orthopaedic surgeon told TNA that efforts should be made to promote harmony and not disturb it.
