Alarm Bells Ring As Fresh Covid Cases Climb In Uttar Pradesh, Fresh Guidelines Issued

Lucknow/New Delhi, April 12 (TNA) While Coronavirus, after months of slump, was rising steeply in others parts of India, it is now also growing in large numbers in Uttar Pradesh. According to health officials, in the last 24-hours, 446 new infected patients have been reported, taking the mumber of active cases to 1791.

With 97 fresh cases, state capital Lucknow is on the top of Covid list. Senior district and health officials visited the Integrated Covid Command Control Center on Wednesday and reviewed the arrangements. The DM also inspected the Hello Doctor Service Room, Doctor's Room and Command Center and gave instructions to the officers.

Within a fortnight, 2763 fresh positive cases have come to light in the state. During this period the number of active cases of corona has increased sharply from 352 to 1791, which means an increase of more than 508% in less than two weeks. Of the 75 districts, now 66 have reported cases of the deadly virus and only nine district are Covid-free.

INSACOG which does genome sequencing of the Covid cases has said there have been 234 cases of mutated sub-variant XBB.1.16.1 - a variant which is believed to be behind the rise of fresh cases in India. According to genome sequencing, of the samples tested in 22 states, 1,744 samples have found the XBB.1.16.1 variant.

There are 97 positive cases in Lucknow (Active Case – 403). Gautam Budh Nagar i.e. Noida has 69 positive patients (Active Case – 351) and Ghaziabad has 50 (Active Case 232). Apart from this, 11 positive cases (active cases – 55) have been found in Varanasi. 14 cases have been reported in Agra (active cases - 48), 17 (active cases - 47) in Prayagraj and 18 (active cases - 38) in Meerut. During this, 49 thousand 444 samples were tested.

Health officials while saying there was still no need to panic, they cautioned against negligience and udnerlined the need of Covid appropriate behaviour which includes wearing of masks in public places, maintaining safe physical distance and hand sanitising from time to time.

The Union health ministry has confirmed the death of 16 persons in the country in the last one day due to Covid and officials informed that the positivity rate has climbed to 3.65%.
