After Public Outrage On Hathras Gang-Rape And Death of Victim, Modi Dials Yogi Adityanath

LUCKNOW || Following public furore, criticism by the opposition and outrage on the social media with regards to the death of a 19-year-old Dalit girl in Hathras, who was gang-raped, her spine smashed and tongue slit, prime minister Narendra Modi dialled the Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and spoke to him on the incident.

Expressing worry and sadness at the incident, the prime minister asked Adityanath to ensure that the guilty get the toughest of punishment for the gruesome and gut-wrenching crime. The victim died at the Safdarjung hospital in New Delhi on Tuesday. He body was secretly burnt by the UP Police in the midnight, her family has alleged.

Following the telephonic conversation with the prime minister, UP chief minister has constituted a three-member Special Investigation team (SIT) to probe the incident and submit a report to the state government within seven days. The chief minister has also ordered the police to see that the case against the four accused, all of whom are now in jail, is put up in the fast track court and the most stringent punishment demanded for them.

The SIT will be headed by Home Secretary Bhagwan Swaroop and the other two members include DIG Chandra Prakash, Commandant of PAC in Agra Poonam. The chief minister also assured the prime minister, an official said, that the state government has zero tolerance towards crime, specially committed against women.
