150-Plus Entrepreneurs Show Interest In Investing In Gorakhpur's Readymade Garment Park, Says UP Government

Gorakhpur, January 12 (TNA) More than 150 entrepreneurs have shown interest to invest in setting up units of readymade garments in Gorakhpur, the one-time parliamentary seat of UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, an official said on Tuesday.

All through his parliamentary tenure, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath strived hard to upgrade the textile and readymade garments sector in Gorakhpur. Its proof is the declaration of readymade garments sector as the second ODOP product in Gorakhpur district, he added.

On the instructions of the Chief Minister, the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) and the officials of the Department of Industries are constantly working to make Gorakhpur a hub for the readymade garments sector.

After a National Seminar on Purvanchal Development held in December, now an important seminar-workshop is to be held on the first day of Gorakhpur festival on January 12.

Many technology experts and entrepreneurs will brainstorm during this event on the subject. Officials are working on a proposal to pave the way for the Readymade Garments Park as suggested by the Chamber of Industries in GIDA. In this regard,

Here, small and large units produce readymade garments of 2 lakh meters per day. The Yogi government has included the readymade garments industry of Gorakhpur in ODOP after Terracotta.

This is also generating new job opportunities for artisans on a large scale. During the Corona Crisis, a large number of artisans have returned from Mumbai, Surat, Ludhiana during the lockdown, who were working in the readymade garments factories there.

The efforts of the government will benefit these artisans in a big way. There are around 500 units of readymade garments in Gorakhpur where 5 to 20 machines are operational. Laxmi Shastri has a large unit in the Piprauli area. Before 2016 Shastri had set up a unit in Mumbai. Not only this, Gorakhpur textile sector has three big processing houses, three spinning units and two knitting units. There are about 4000 units of power loom, big and small.

On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner of Industry RK Sharma says that arrangements have been made for subsidised loan with all facilities to set up a readymade garments unit.

There is a lot of potential in this sector in Gorakhpur. It will also increase employment opportunities in areas such as designing, packaging. Artisans will get a chance to become entrepreneurs. We will also give them a toolkit with training, he informed. Overall, employment will increase four to six times as compared to the present day.
