UP To Constitute EWS Board, First State In India To Do So

Lucknow, March 17 (TNA) Uttar Pradesh has become the first state in the country to constitute an EWS Board. The Board will monitor the reservation of economically backward classes in educational institutions and jobs and compliance of EWS reservation rules in educational institutions and jobs.

This board will also give its recommendations to the government for the welfare of backward classes from time to time. This will include high level representatives of technical and education departments and recruitment commissions. UP will be the first state in the country to do such an experiment.

The state government has sought the format of this board within two to three days. Minister of Social Welfare will be the ex-officio Chairman and the Minister of State for Social Welfare will be the ex-officio Vice-Chairman. The members of this board will be the principal secretaries of education department, technical education department, medical education and vocational education department.

Chairman of UP Public Service Commission and Subordinate Service Selection Commission or officers nominated on their behalf will also join the board. This draft is planned to be placed in the cabinet to be formed immediately after the formation of the new government.

The benefit of EWS category is available to those of unreserved category whose income is less than Rs. 8 lakh per annum and does not fall under SC, ST or OBC category. Such persons are given 10 percent reservation in all educational, technical institutes and government jobs.
