Veteran Punjab Leader, Former CM Parkash Singh Badal Passes Away At 95

Chandigarh, April 25 (TNA) Veteran politician and former chief minister of Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal passed away at a medical facility in Mohali late on Tuesday, his family informed.

He was 95 and had been struggling with old-age related ailments for some time. He was one the most towering leaders of the state and had made his debut in politics in 1947.

He won his first assembly election in 1957. In 1969, Parkash Singh Badal became an MLA again. Badal was the Chief Minister of Punjab from 1970–71, 1977–80, 1997–2002.

He was born on December 8, 1927 in a Jat Sikh family of Abul Khurana, a small village in Punjab. Parkash Singh Badal's wife Surinder Kaur has also passed away. Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Badal is his son.
