Two Soldiers Martyred As Kulgam Anti-Terror Operation In Kashmir Enters Ninth Day
Srinagar, August 9 (TNA) Security forces in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kulgam district have been engaged in an intense anti-terror operation for the past nine days. The firefight, concentrated in the Akhal area, has claimed the lives of two Indian soldiers—Lieutenant Colonel Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh—while several other personnel have been injured.
The prolonged confrontation is among the longest in recent years and highlights a shift in militant tactics, with terrorists taking refuge in dense forest terrain to evade surveillance and response.
The joint team comprising the Indian Army, J&K Police, CRPF, and Special Operations Group has maintained continuous pressure, responding to intermittent fire and systematically tightening its cordon.
So far, security forces have neutralised at least one terrorist, with additional militants believed to be trapped in the area. Operations involve advanced surveillance, like drones, to aid the hunt.
The Army’s Chinar Corps paid tribute to the fallen soldiers, commending their courage and ultimate sacrifice in defence of the nation. Senior officials have expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families and reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating terrorism from the region.
Search operations remain active, with officials cautioning that the situation remains fluid as security personnel continue their efforts to restore peace in Kulgam.
