TMC Suspends MLA Humayun Kabir Amid Babri Mosque Row, He Announces Plans To Form New Party

Kolkata, December 4 (TNA) Trinamool Congress (TMC) has suspended its MLA Humayun Kabir from Bharatpur constituency in West Bengal over his controversial plans to lay the foundation stone for a Babri Masjid replica in Murshidabad’s Beldanga on December 6, the anniversary of the 1992 demolition.

The decision comes after weeks of party leadership expressing annoyance with Kabir’s defiance, including threats to block a 30-km highway if authorities interfere, prompting Governor C.V. Ananda Bose to question why preventive arrest wasn’t made for law-and-order risks.

Kabir, a serial turncoat who rejoined TMC after stints in Congress and BJP, announced the event would draw lakhs of people with 2,000 volunteers ensuring order, while accusing district officials of acting as “RSS agents.”

TMC leaders like MP Kalyan Banerjee dismissed him as having “no value,” and the party distanced itself, stating it does not endorse his personal actions ahead of 2026 assembly polls. Police have denied permission for the December 6 program, heightening tensions in the minority-dominated district.
