Strong Buying In Midcap And Smallcaps Marks Muhurat Trading, Shares Of Bajaj Finserv Top Gainer

Mumbai, October 21 (TNA) The stock market held a special muhurat trading session on the occasion of Diwali. Both the Sensex and Nifty closed higher in this session. Investors started the New Year 2082 with a positive outlook. The Sensex rose by 62.97 points, while the Nifty 50 rose by 25.45 points. Today, the Sensex closed at 84,426.34 and the Nifty 50 index at 25,868.60 points. The stock market will remain closed tomorrow on the occasion of Diwali Padwa.

Heavy buying was seen in midcap and smallcap stocks in late trading. The Nifty Midcap closed at 59,409.55 with a gain of 65.05 points, and the Nifty Smallcap closed at 18,300.65 with a gain of 94.50 points. Sectoral index Nifty IT rose 7.15 points to close at 35,299.75. However, Nifty Bank declined by 26 points to close at 58,007.20. Investors' buying today remained focused on media, metals and pharma stocks, while realty and pharma sectors were marginally lower.

Bajaj Finserv shares were the top gainers during the trading session. The stock closed up 1.11% at ₹2163.15. Infosys shares gained 0.72% to close at ₹1472. Axis Bank shares closed higher at ₹1234. Mahindra & Mahindra gained 0.60% and Tata Motors gained 0.55% to close at ₹401.90. Shares of HDFC Bank rose 0.40% to ₹1,007.30. Power Grid gained 0.38% to close at ₹288.80, while L&T gained 0.34% to close at ₹3887. Apart from this, the shares of Adani Ports, BEL, State Bank of India, Sun Pharma and Tech Mahindra also saw gains.
