Sonia Gandhi Cracks Whip, Seeks Resignations Of State Unit Chiefs Where Congress Lost in Assembly Polls

New Delhi, March 15 (TNA) Stung by the humiliating defeats in five states in the recently concluded state assembly polls, the interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday cracked the whip and sought the resignations of the state aprty chiefs of Goa, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Uttar Pradesh. The move, the party said, has been necessiated to overhaul the state units.

The aprty had gone into a huddle on Sunday trying to assess the reasons for the humilaiting losses. Soon after the express orders of Sonia Gandhi, Uttarakhand Congress chief Ganesh Godiyal put in his papers and the others are likely to follow. Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Siddhu, UPCC chief Ajay Kumar Lallu failed to even save their seats and the party in both states shrunk to a new low.
