Shashi Tharoor’s Aide Caught At IGI Airport With Gold Worth Rs 55 Lakh

New Delhi, May 30 (TNA) The personal assistant of senior Congress leader and incumbent Lok Sabha MP from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, was on Thursday arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi trying to smuggle a large quantity of gold, officials said.

Shiva Kumar, is accused of possessing more gold than the prescribed limit. He was returning from Dubai. Investigation has been initiated in the case. Meanwhile, Tharoor has said that the person caught was a former member of his staff.

Giving information in the case, Customs Department officials said that Shashi Tharoor's assistant Shiv Kumar was caught at Delhi airport while returning from Dubai. Delhi Customs arrested two people including Tharoor's PA Shiv Kumar in the gold smuggling case at Delhi airport on Wednesday, May 29. A total of 500 grams of gold was recovered from Shiv Kumar's possession, cost of which is around Rs 55 lakh.
