Severe Cold, Fog, Poor Visibility Cripple North India, Chill To Aggravate In Coming Days

Lucknow, December 21 (TNA) In view of the severe cold wave sweeping many parts of the country, specially in North India, a red alert has been issued, with the weatherman warning that the chill might intensify in the coming days.

Many areas including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh are witnessing dense fog and due to the subsequent poor visibility on highways and roads more than a dozen accidents have taken place in UP alone, leaving many dead.

Many trains are running late due to dense fog. Over 70 long distance trains were delayed by 2 to 6 hours in the capital Delhi. At the same time, more than 20 aircraft flew late by 15 to 30 minutes. 32 trains were canceled in Moradabad. School timings have also been changed in many cities of Uttar Pradesh.

Visibility in Agra, Lucknw and Gorakhpur was around 300 metres on Wednesday morning. Chandigarh-Varanasi-Lucknow flights were diverted to Delhi.
