Prosperity For Widows: Empowering 2,000 Women Towards Dignity And Independence In Bihar
Patna, October 5 (TNA) A transformative program focusing on the empowerment of widows and young people in Bihar celebrated a major milestone today, with 2,000 widows gaining new hope and independence. The event, held in Patna and organised by Sulabh International in collaboration with the Loomba Foundation, was graced by Bihar Governor Arif Mohammed Khan as the Chief Guest.
Ravi Shankar Prasad, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), was the Guest of Honour, and Kanta Singh, Deputy Country Representative, UN Women India, attended as the Special Guest. In his address, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan reflected on India’s timeless message of spiritual unity and social harmony, underscoring the nation’s ethos of oneness (“Ekātmata”) as the foundation for peace and non-violence.
He praised the lasting legacy of Dr Bindeshwar Pathak and applauded those continuing Sulabh International’s mission. Ravi Shankar Prasad lauded the organisation’s pioneering work in sanitation and human dignity, highlighting the monumental impact of initiatives such as Swachh Bharat and compassionate efforts toward widows in Vrindavan.
Nitya Pathak, National Convener of Sulabh International, paid tribute to the enduring strength and sacrifice of women, urging society to recognise their right to dignity and leadership in progress.
Lord Raj Loomba, Founder of the Loomba Foundation, expressed pride in empowering 2,000 widows, emphasising that the initiative represents thousands of lives uplifted and communities transformed.
Kanta Singh of UN Women India stressed that true empowerment must extend beyond welfare, addressing structural challenges like property rights for widows and combating violence. She highlighted the importance of education, safety, and leadership roles for women in Bihar’s evolving social landscape.
The program, “Prosperity for Widows,” represents a crucial step toward socio-economic independence for women who have long faced neglect, giving them skills and hope for a better future.
