Priyanka Gandhi Lashes Out At Modi Government, Accuses It Of Treating Farmers Shabbily

Muzaffarnagar, February 20 (TNA) Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi led government at the centre, accusing it of ill-treating the farmers and suing force against the very people who feed the nation.

At a well-attended 'Kisan Maha Panchayat', the Congress leader said it was most unfortunate that the farmers who sent their children to defend the borders, were themselves being treated as the enemy of the nation.

"In the past few weeks we have seen how security arrangements were made to prevent farmers, it appeared like it was the border of the country..." she rued as the public, largely of farmers and youth, roared in approval. It is sad that the prime minister called the farmers parasites, she said further.

Talking on the three-farm laws, against which thousands of farmers have hit the road and are protesting, Priyanka Gandhi said the government was playing in the hands of certain industrialists to benefit them even as the condition of the farmers was getting worse. She said leaders must acknowledge that it is the people who make or break them and no one should be under the impression of vice-versa being the case.

She was earlier welcomed at many places on route to the Kisan Mahapanchayat, Congressmen of the region felt elated at the large turnout, with many openly expressing hope that this could be the turning point in the politics of the state and the country, building the foundation of Congress's comeback.
