PM Modi To Lead Independence Day Celebrations At Red Fort, Invites Diverse 'Special Guests'

New Delhi, August 14 (TNA) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead India's 77th Independence Day celebrations on August 15 at the Red Fort. The Defence Ministry announced the participation of around 1,800 'Special Guests' from various vocations, along with their spouses.

This marked increase in guest numbers reflects the government's commitment to 'Jan Bhagidari' (public participation). The event will see PM Modi unfurl the national flag and deliver his customary address.

The 'Special Guests' encompass a broad spectrum, including over 400 sarpanches from vibrant villages, participants from farmer producer organizations, beneficiaries of key schemes like Kisan Samman Nidhi and Kaushal Vikas Yojana, Central Vista Project's Shram Yogis, Khadi workers, border road constructors, and those involved in various development initiatives. Additionally, teachers, nurses, fishermen, and couples from each state and Union Territory have received invitations.

This year also marks a historic moment, as 50 'Karmyogis' from the Border Roads Organisation, along with their spouses, will participate in the ceremony, recognizing their dedication to safeguarding national borders. The event includes selfie points highlighting government initiatives. An online selfie contest will be conducted from August 15-20.

To ensure smooth proceedings, traffic advisories have been issued, with certain roads closed from 4 am to 11 am on August 15. Only labeled vehicles will be allowed on specified routes. Those without parking labels are advised to avoid specific areas. Overall, this year's Independence Day celebrations promise a diverse representation of the nation's workforce and achievements."
