OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Android App After iOS Success, Plans Global Expansion

OpenAI has officially launched the ChatGPT app for Android, following a successful two-month run on iOS. The Android rollout is currently in its initial phase, granting access to users in the US, India, Bangladesh, and Brazil, with plans to expand to more countries in the coming week. Available as a free download on the Google Play store, the app offers an optional subscription for users who wish to access the enhanced GPT-4 language model and additional features.

To download the ChatGPT app on Android, users can visit the Google Play store and find the ChatGPT Android app page. Simply tap the Install button to download and install the app, which is only 6MB in size. For those who pre-registered, a quick update from the store will suffice.

The Android version offers all the features available on the desktop version, including chat history and syncing support. Users have the option to sign up with a free account, with the added benefit of upgrading to the paid GPT-4 model.

ChatGPT has gained significant popularity since its public release in November last year, providing AI-generated text content and tailored advice to users based on their queries and prompts.

Despite its success, a recent report by Similarweb revealed a slight decline in traffic to ChatGPT's website and a decrease in unique visitors in June compared to May. However, the launch of the Android app demonstrates OpenAI's commitment to expanding its user base and global reach.

With the ChatGPT Android app now available to a broader audience, OpenAI aims to continue providing accessible and innovative AI-powered chatbot services to users worldwide.
