Jalgaon, January 22 (TNA) A major train accident occurred on Wednesday at 4:42 PM near Pachora station in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district, between Maheji and Pardhade. Panic broke out on the Pushpak Express following rumours of a fire in the coaches. In response, a passenger pulled the emergency chain, causing the train to halt abruptly. Frightened passengers jumped off the train, and tragically, several were run over by the Karnataka Express approaching on the adjacent track.

Jalgaon SP confirmed the death of 11 people, while 40 others were reported injured. According to Central Railway’s Bhusawal Division officials, the incident occurred on a sharp turn, preventing passengers on the tracks from seeing the oncoming train. Central Railway CPRO Swapnil Nila stated that a medical relief train from Bhusawal has been dispatched to the site, located 400 kilometres from Mumbai.

Preliminary investigations revealed that sparks were caused by a "hot axle" or "brake-binding" in a coach of the Pushpak Express (12533), travelling from Lucknow to Mumbai. The Karnataka Express (12627), en route from Yesvantpur to Hazrat Nizamuddin, struck passengers who had jumped off in panic. Authorities are continuing rescue operations.
