On Her 65th Birthday, Mayawati Says BSP Will Solo In 2022 Assembly Elections In UP-Uttarakhand

Lucknow, January 15 (TNA) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati turned 65 on Friday and her followers are celebrating her birthday in their own ways.

The four-time UP chief minister made an important political announcement to mark her birthday as she said that in the forthcoming state assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand her party will not get into an alliance with any party.

Announcing that BSP will go solo, the Dalit leader set to rest speculations that she might be part of some opposition alliance as they brace up to unseat the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in India's most populous state which is also politically the most crucial. BSP had buried the hatchet with arch rivals the Samajwadi Party in 2019 parliamentary elections but the alliance did not yield desired results.

The mercurial leader also took the opportunity on Friday to laud the Modi government for the nationwide roll-out of COVID-19 vaccine but urged the government to provide the vaccine free of cost to the people. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and SBSP chief Shivpal Singh Yadav have also extended their good wishes to the BSP chief on her birthday.
