Model-Turned-Politician Rakhi Gupta Disqualified As Chhapra's Mayor For Concealing Third Child

Patna, July 29 (TNA) The Bihar State Election Commission (SEC) has disqualified Rakhi Gupta, a former model and current politician, from the position of Chhapra's Mayor due to her failure to disclose information about her third child in her election affidavit of 2022. The disqualification came after a five-month-long hearing on a complaint filed by former mayor Sunita Devi.

During the proceedings, it was revealed that Rakhi Gupta and her husband Varun Prakash had a third child, who was adopted by Varun Prakash's relatives, as confirmed by the district magistrate's report. However, the child's Aadhaar details listed Rakhi Gupta and Varun Prakash as the biological parents.

Rakhi Gupta cited the adoption of her six-year-old son, Shree Prakash, by her husband's relatives as the reason for mentioning only two children in her affidavit. Nevertheless, the SEC invoked Section 18 (1) (m) of the Bihar Municipality Act, 2007, which renders individuals ineligible to contest municipal elections if they have a third child born after April 4, 2008, regardless of adoption.

Rakhi Gupta responded to her disqualification by moving the Patna High Court to challenge the verdict, stating that she respects the SEC's decision and believes the opposition targeted her since her election victory.

Rakhi Gupta's political career began after a successful run in the fashion industry as a model. With an MBA degree, she secured a significant victory in the mayoral election of Chhapra. Additionally, Rakhi Gupta enjoys popularity on social media, boasting nearly 70,000 followers on Instagram.
