The former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, in a series of tweets said that it was painful to see prices of petrol, diesel, LPG cylinders and milk shoot through the roof.
"These essential commodities have disrupted the household budget of people, specially the poor and the middle class across the country," she said while accusing the government of being "insensitive and not serious" in containing the prices.
The Dalit leader went on the suggest to the government at the centre and in states to work towards controlling the soaring prices. "The governments should put in all their power and resources to give relief to the people" she said.
The four-time UP chief minister also stated that immediate intervention of the state to pull the country out of despondency and bring the development process back.
Mayawati has been maintaining a studied silence on political matters and is away from public glare for some time now, but has suddenly become vocal. Once a strong critic of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), she was viewed as going soft on the saffron camp of late and opposition parties have been accusing her for being in a covert understanding with the BJP.
